Chartered Institute of Housing Charity Golf Day

It promised to be such a beautiful day that the early birds started arriving at 9.30am, eager to miss the traffic and start teeing off. Bright sunshine and soaring temperatures were waiting in the wings to make the Chartered Institute of Housing South East Region 2016 Charity Golf Day a success.

Organised on behalf of Anne Chapman (CIH SE Chair), in association with calfordseaden, this friendly competitive event held at Surrey National Golf Club on Wednesday 14th September 2016 raised funds for the invaluable work carried out by Porchlight.

Porchlight is a homelessness charity working across the whole of Kent. They help nearly 5,000 men, women and children who have nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Some are homeless; others are struggling to cope with the pressures in their lives and need some support to keep on track. Living on the streets can be a terrifying experience. It’s cold, dangerous and can take its toll on a person’s mental and physical health. But when the worst happens and someone does find themselves homeless, Porchlight is there to help.

By late afternoon the enthusiastic players started coming back to the clubhouse with smiling, sunkissed faces and tired legs to share stories from the day and compare scores to see who would be the winning team and who would go home with the highly-coveted Highest Individual Stableford Score prize.

Following the three course dinner, Simon provided guests with a personal insight into how Porchlight has positively changed his life. A big thank you goes to Ashley Hook, Chief Executive of mhs Homes for conducting the auction. Lots included golf rounds at Surrey National and The Addington Golf Clubs, Champagne afternoon tea at the Shard, Premier League Football tickets, and a cross-Channel flight and lunch. Between the auction and raffle ticket sales, an impressive £5,000 was raised for Porchlight to help some of the most vulnerable in society.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the golf day’s sponsors including AD Construction Group, Altonwood Group, Batchelors Solicitors, EC1 Projects Limited, Higgins Construction PLC, Hill, Lovell, Martin Arnold Limited, Pellings, United Living (South) Ltd, and Winckworth Sherwood.

It was a great day of golf enjoyed by all who attended. More than that, however, it was a fantastic way of coming together to raise money for a charity doing much-needed work in the community.

Decoco is proud to have event managed this day, from producing marketing material for the golfers and the sponsors, liaising with the CIH SE chair and Porchlight, all the way through to facilitating the event on the day.
